Community Sailing Awards

US Sailing's Community Sailing Committee presents a number of awards each year at the National Sailing Programs Symposium, honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of community access sailing in the U.S.

In 2013, the Community Sailing Committee held the first ever Community Sailing Awards Dinner at the Clearwater Community Sailing Center.

Awards were presented to the following individuals:
 

  1. Marty Luray-  Cappy Capper, Wayzata Community Sailing Center (Wayzata, MN)
  2. Outstanding Organizational Leadership- Charlie Zechel, Community Boating, Inc. (Boston, MA)
  3. Outstanding Year Round Program Director- Greg Fisher, College of Charleston (Charleston, MA)
  4. Outstanding Seasonal Program Director- Tommy Stewart, Sail Sand Point (Seattle, WA)
  5. Excellence in Instruction-  Jane Pimental, Community Sailing Center, New Bedford (New Bedford, MA)
  6. Outstanding Organizational Support- Caloosahatchee Marching & Chowder Society (Cape Coral, FL)
  7. Contributions to the Development of Community Sailing- Gerard and Diane Koeppel
  8. More than 10 Years of Hallmark Performance- Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center (Burlington, VT)
  9. Outstanding Community Sailing Program- Downtown Sailing Center (Baltimore, MD)
  10. Outstanding Adaptive Community Sailing Program- “Camp Awesome” at the Clearwater Community Sailing Center (Clearwater, FL)
  11. Outstanding Outreach & Inclusion- Ross Webb, Edison Sailing Center (Ft. Myers, FL)
  12. Creative Innovations in Programming- Jen Guimaraes, Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center (Burlington, VT)
Training Department Awards were also presented to the following recpients:
  1. Virginia Long Sail Training Service & Support Award- Rachael Miller, Rozalia Project
  2. Capt. Joe Prosser Award for Excellence in Sailing Instruction- Milwaukee Community Sailing Center (Milwaukee, WI)
